Tooth Extraction & Surgical Procedures in Muvattupuzha
When a tooth cannot be saved, removal is the kindest thing you can do. Done gently under complete anaesthesia — no pain during the procedure.
We Always Try to Save the Tooth First. When We Cannot, We Remove It Gently.
Extraction is our last option — not our first. If there is any possibility of saving a tooth through root canal treatment, a crown, or other restoration, we will discuss that first. But when a tooth is too damaged, infected, impacted, or structurally compromised, removing it is the right call. Keeping a non-viable tooth causes ongoing infection, bone loss, and damage to surrounding teeth.
At our clinic, extractions are done under complete local anaesthesia. You will feel pressure as the tooth is loosened and removed — but not pain. If at any point you feel pain, we stop and administer more anaesthesia before continuing. We do not proceed until you are completely numb.
Common reasons for extraction include severely decayed teeth that cannot be restored, broken teeth below the gumline, impacted wisdom teeth causing pain or crowding, and teeth loosened by advanced gum disease.
After your extraction
- Bite on gauze for 30–45 minutes — this stops bleeding
- Ice pack on cheek for first 2–3 hours reduces swelling
- Soft foods for 2–3 days (rice, curd, soft roti, soups)
- No smoking or straws for 48 hours — suction dislodges the clot
- Take prescribed medication exactly as directed
- Call us if you have severe pain after day 3 — this may be dry socket, which is easily treated
Once healed, we will discuss replacement options — dental implants, a bridge, or a partial denture — so the gap does not affect your bite or remaining teeth over time.

Questions About Tooth Extraction
No. The extraction is done under local anaesthesia. You will feel pressure and movement but not pain. If you feel pain at any point, we stop immediately and add more anaesthesia. Mild soreness for 1–3 days afterward is normal and managed with medication.
A simple extraction takes 10–20 minutes once the area is numb. Surgical extractions (impacted wisdom teeth) take 30–60 minutes. We will give you a clear estimate beforehand.
Soft foods for 2–3 days: rice porridge, curd, idli, soups. Avoid hard, crunchy, or very hot food near the extraction site. Most patients return to normal eating after 3–4 days.
Fold a clean cloth and bite firmly on it for 30–45 minutes. Do not keep checking the socket — this disrupts clot formation. If heavy bleeding continues after an hour, call us immediately.
What Patients Say
"I had been dreading my wisdom tooth extraction for months. The whole thing was over in 20 minutes. The doctor explained every step, the anaesthesia was effective, and I didn't feel a thing. Drove home and had rice porridge for dinner. I honestly don't know what I was so worried about."
"I came in with a broken tooth that had been causing pain for a week. They extracted it the same day. The relief was immediate. Clear aftercare instructions, a follow-up call the next morning to check on me. Very caring team."
"My father is 72 and very anxious about dental visits. The doctor was incredibly patient with him, explained everything slowly, and the extraction was done without any drama. He came out smiling. We are grateful for the gentle treatment."
